New release, visual improvements, bug fixes and balance


Greetings everyone!

I'm more than happy to share you a new build of Alterworld today, which brings a couple of improvements on various fronts.

First of all, almost every weapon base got a custom 3D model now (save for the Iceburst and the Vanquisher unique weapon), and existing weapon bases like Rocket launchers, Plasma pistols, Iceshard Launchers and Sniper rifles or the got improved by an inherent SFX boost which makes their secondary effects like igniting, chilling more consistent by default, and which can be further improved by your gear.

And while we are talking about SFX, chilling effect is now has a minimum effect of 50% reduction to enemy action speed, which stacks up to 95% if you can apply it multiple times which should make for a more defensive build especially on higher difficulty levels.

Also say bye bye to that simple blue cube, as loot dummies got their 3D model by now too, with an updated visual effect for quality.

Some of the VFX got a visual polish pass, such as the HP/MP bar which is animated now, soft ground fog effects which improves the overall visual quality of the game.

And of course as always the build comes with optimizations and bug fixes too, including and optimization pass for enemy ai, a fix for a pathfinding issue, simplified minimap rendering, which isn't even it's final form, but improves the performance compared to what we had before.

The game will now detect your resolution on launch, but you can still pick a predefined resolution in the settings if you like. The alignment issue with borderless windowed mode got fixed too.

- Visual polish on dropped items, item labels can be seen through obstacles now.

- Soft fog effect, smooths out the edges of particles with proximity fade. It's ON by default, but you can turn it off in settings if it hits your performance.

- Animated HP/MP bars

- Chill effect slow target by 50%-95% based on damage dealt (and this effect can be stacked up to 95%).

- Fixed a navigation issue in the city level.

- Fixed an UI issue which caused item panels to appear behind the upgrade panel.

- Adjusted combat music frequency for weapons with low fire rate.

- Rocket launchers, Plasma pistols, Iceshard Launchers and Sniper rifles got an inherent sfx boost.

- Updated minimap rendering.

- Optimized enemy ai.

- The consecutive attack buff now properly resets if you stop attacking.

- Screen resolution detection.

- Fixed an alignment issue with borderless windowed mode.

- Held item is getting deleted if you exit the game or change levels.

- Stuttering on the first run because shaders are getting compiled on the fly.
